This guide is intended to help you find both print and online agriculture resources. This guide is only a starting point for your research, it is not meant to be a comprehensive list of resources. If you need further assistance, please visit the Research & Information Desk in the library.
All books in the library are arranged by subject using the Library of Congress classification system for call numbers and subject headings. The main call number for agriculture begins with "S". The basic breakdown is as follows:
|HD 1401 - 2210||-||Land Use. Labor. Agriculture.|
|S1 - S972||-||Agriculture (General)|
|SB1 - SB1110||-||Plant Culture|
|SD1 - SD669.5||-||Forestry|
|SF1 - SF1110||-||Animal Culture|
|SH1 - SH691||-||Aquaculture, Fisheries, Fishing|
|SK1 - SK664||-||Hunting|
The numbers that follow these beginning letters relate to the narrower scope of the item, for example: the call number SB71 represents books about the history of plant culture and the call number SF41 for books about the history of animal culture. An example of a specific call number for a book entitled Livestock for a Small Earth : the Role of Animals in a Just and Sustainable World is SF41 .L58 1994.
Occasionally a totally different call number will appear. This means the item is about more than agriculture and higher importance was given to the other subject when the call number was assigned.
