All books in the library are arranged by subject using the Library of Congress classification system for call numbers and subject headings. The call numbers for health, physical education and sports sciences generally begin with "GV" and "RC". The basic breakdown is as follows:
GV 201 - GV 555 |
- |
Physical education and training |
GV 557 - GV 1198.995 |
- |
Sports |
RC 1200 - RC 1245 | Sports Medicine |
The numbers that follow these beginning letters relate to the narrower scope of the item, for example: the call number RC 1210 .H49 2000, is a general book on athletic training.
Occasionally a totally different call number will appear. This means the item is about more than health, physical education and sports sciences and higher importance was given to the other subject when the call number was assigned.
