Services for Faculty

The Dean B. Ellis Library is happy to offer A-State faculty a variety of services.

The Service Desk provides convenient access to required reading materials selected by the faculty. The reserve collection allows many students to equally share class assigned readings. Materials that are photocopied should comply with the copyright laws.

The reserve collection includes books, articles, class notes, videotapes, audiotapes, journals, and any other materials, which are required for class assignments.

All materials in the collection are listed by requesting faculty members name. You can also get the information at the Service Desk.

Reserve Loan Periods

Reserve materials circulate for a limited time, which is determined by the faculty. Loan periods are one hour, two hour, four hour, and twenty-four hour. Five reserve items may be checked out at one time. A valid A-State ID is required to check out materials. A fine of $.25 and hour or fraction of an hour is charged for reserve materials that are not returned within one hour of the time due. Reserve material can only leave the library at the request of the faculty member. Journals and non-circulating materials may not leave the library. The maximum charge for a reserve item is $20.00.

Reserve items cannot be checked out if you have overdue books or owe a fine of $5.00 or more.

Putting items on reserve

Faculty members can put items on reserve for their students by bringing them to the circulation desk along with a completed reserve form.

Download the reserve form: (Word) (PDF

Only one completed form is required for each class. The form must contain the faculty member's name, the departmental office number to return the items at the end of the semester, the course number, how long the material is to stay on reserve, whether or not the material can leave the library, and how the item(s) should circulate. Additionally, any special instructions can be indicated on the reserve form. Reserves may be picked up at the end of the semester, or a library employee will return them to the appropriate departmental office. There is a twenty-four hour turn around time for placing materials on reserve. Faculty should bring reserve materials over before the semester begins. Reserve materials are put on reserve in the order in which they are received. Every attempt will be made to protect faculty's personal materials, but the library is not responsible for and cannot replace materials that are lost, stolen, or damaged! When no circulation checkout period is specified on the reserve form, the checkout default period will be one hour with in-library use only.

Faculty should be familiar with the appropriate copyright laws when placing photocopied materials on reserve. For more information, visit our Reserves page.
