About Literary Index

Gale's Literary Index is a master index to the major literature products published by Gale. It combines and cross-references over 165,000 author names, including pseudonyms and variant names, and listings for over 215,000 titles into one source. It is an excellent source for identifying sources of biographical information on authors as well as literary criticism of their works. Below is a list of just a few of the works indexed in Literary Index:

Literary Index is, however, just an index. This means it only helps you identify sources on an author or an author's work(s). You will still have to find out if the library subscribes to the source. This LibGuide will explain how to use Literary Index.

Once you've identified sources in Literary Index, you can search the library's catalog to find out if we have the source in print or you can search the Gale Literary Sources database. Learn how to search for books at the library.
