Dean B. Ellis Library Receives Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History Mini-Grant

The Dean B. Ellis Library at Arkansas State University has received two $500 grants from the Gilder Lehrman Institute with support from by the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) to present public programming to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Though the Civil War took place one hundred and fifty years ago, people today can still identify with the thoughts and fears of ordinary citizens and soldiers, many of which reflect a humanity that is forever consistent. JONESBORO, AR –The Dean B. Ellis Library at Arkansas State University has received two $500 grants from the Gilder Lehrman Institute with support from by the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) to present public programming to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

March 5 - 1pm Carolyn Ponce presents Civil War Music

March 11 - 6pm  Danny Honnoll presents The Battle of Jonesboro

March 11 - 7:15pm  Joe May presents Civil War Ghosts

March 12 - 1pm Dramatic readings of Civil War Poetry

March 18 - 2pm Bobbie Barnett presents Victorian Mourning Customs

March 19 - 3pm Dr. Catherine Calloway presents Debunking the Cult of Victorian Domesticity: Women’s Contributions to the Civil War

March 20 - 3pm W. Stuart Towns presents Arkansas Civil War Heritage: A Legacy of Honor
