Pick up a new poem each day from our poetry table for yourself or to share with friends and family. There is a chance that your photo may appear on social media.

Stop by the chalkboard on the second floor in the library to create your own poem with post-it notes!

Speaker/Lecture

Dr. Rick Lott, Professor of English, will give a brief lecture about poetry and his personal contributions to the genre!  There will be time for Q & A.

Blackout  Poetry! Round 1!

Take a black marker and use it to blackout text from a source with established text like a newspaper. You can start redacting words until a poem is formed. Sign up sheets are available at the library reference desk and will also be at a table in the union from 11am-1pm on the 10th and 11th. Prizes will be awarded.

Dr. Aryal, Assistant Professor of English, will discuss creating and writing poetry. Following, there will be a mini poetry workshop hosted by the A-State Writing Center. Prizes will be awarded!

School Outreach Workshop

Note: This event is for Nettleton High School Concurrent Students only.

The A-State Writing Center will host a mini poetry workshop at Nettleton High School. The students will create their own poems. Prizes will be awarded.

Poetry Slam Contest

The Library will host a poetry slam contest for performances of other's poetry as well as original creations. There will be a chance to win prizes! Sign ups are available at the library reference desk and at our table in the union on various days throughout the month. Our celebrity judge will be Chancellor Kelly Damphousse.

National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets. It is has become the largest literary celebration in the world.  Libraries, schools, publishers, booksellers, and poets celebrate poetry's place in culture. We hope that events and activities thorough out the month of April will inspire you to celebrate poetry all year long.
