Resources for Veterans

NGTA is a state funded program created by the Arkansas General Assembly in 2017, which provides a tuition free benefit to qualifying members of the Arkansas Army and Air National Guards. NGTA may be used all public institutions of higher education within the state of Arkansas.

Visit the Department of Higher Education’s website and complete the Arkansas YOUniversal Scholarship Application or download the free YOUniversal app for your smart phone. The online YOUniversal application is your one-stop shop for state and lottery funded financial aid.

Veterans can apply for the $2,500 AT&T War Memorial Scholarship. Applicants must be Arkansas veterans of any branch of the armed forces or member of the National Guard or Reserves.

In honor of CPT James Ahn, Gain Service Academy sponsors an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a Special Forces Veteran who is working towards the completion of a higher education degree.

FTA is financial assistance provided for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a Soldier’s professional and personal self-development goals. Contains information on how to qualify and how to apply.

The following financial aid guide provides a thorough overview of grants and scholarships that are available to servicemembers and families from every branch of the military (including the Guard and Reserves). Army ROTC scholarships, Navy ROTC scholarships, and Air Force ROTC scholarships are also included in the guide, as well as information on available GI benefits, guidance on FAFSA, and other financial aid resources.

The Tillman Scholar Program supports veterans and spouses with academic scholarships, a national network, and professional development opportunities so they are empowered to make an impact in the fields of medicine, law, business, policy, technology, education and the arts. The scholarship assists with academic expenses, and can be used for tuition and fees, living expenses, and books. Tillman Scholars can expect an average award of $10,000.

VEAP is available if you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate in this education benefit program. The government matches your contributions on a 2-for-1 basis.

Army ROTC resides at Arkansas State University to offer classes and hands on training focused primarily on leadership in small organizations. These classes are open to all ASTATE students and, through inter-school agreements, to students at ASU-Beebe, Harding University and Williams Baptist College.

Founded in 2008, Student Veterans of American is a coalition of student Veterans’ groups on college campuses across the United States. SVA member chapters are student groups that have formed on college and university campuses to provide peer-topeer networks for Veterans attending those schools. These groups coordinate campus activities, provide pre-professional networking and, generally, provide a touchstone for student Veterans in higher education. Each local group plays a critical role in ensuring every Veteran is successful after his or her service.
