Finding aids contain detailed information about archival collections and what's in them. They do not contain scans or photos of the actual items. Instead, they contain a description of the collection, relevant historical information, date ranges within the collection, conditions governing access, and a detailed inventory. Since many archival collections are divided into boxes and folders, finding aids are often the best way to learn what is in each collection and which box or folder an item is located.
